Local Attractions

There are many local attractions to suit all interests.

The White Horse is a short walk away
  • For walkers, Donkey Down Campsite is on the Inland Jurassic Coast Path, a short walk to the famous White Horse. Donkey Down Camping at Culliford Tree is also nearby.
  • Award winning Weymouth Beach is only a 10 minute drive away.
  • Weymouth also features the historic working Harbour with recreational boat trips available and the Nothe Fort.
  • For watersports enthusiasts, Bowleaze Cove offers activities such as kayaking and paddle boarding.
  • Bowleaze Cove also features Fantasy Island, a small amusement park suitable for adults and children.
  • The nature reserve at Lodmoor is adjoined by Sandworld, Sealife Centre, mini golf and the Rio Grande Railway, a miniature train.
  • A forty minute drive away is Portland Bill with its lighthouse and the seventh wonder of the modern world, Chesil Beach.
  • Along the coast to the west is Abbotsbury Swannery and Gardens, Bridport and West Bay, the location for the filming of Broadchurch.
  • To the east is Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door and close by is Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World.
  • For steam train enthusiasts, there is the Swanage Railway which starts at Corfe Castle and goes to the resort of Swanage.
  • To the north of both sites is the historic market town of Dorchester with both Roman Villa remains and Maiden Castle
  • The surrounding countryside was the back drop for the novels of Thomas Hardy.
  • For those interested in architecture there is the Prince of Wales’s Poundbury development to explore.
